The building is split into two main areas, ‘Wet’ Side and ‘Dry’ Side. Wet refers to the area of the building which houses the Swimming Pool and Dry refers to the areas that contain the Sports Hall and Fitness Suite. Over the years the building has become outdated and a refurbishment was planned, which would revitalise the dry side, whilst keeping the Sports Hall intact.
Challenge
SVM BSD were initially instructed to carry out a performance survey and inspection of the existing mechanical and electrical systems in respect of the proposed refurbishment and remodelling works.
Following the survey it was identified that the majority of the services appeared to be at the end of their life expectancy of circa 25 years and we proposed that these were stripped out with a view to install new energy efficient systems and services would be retained if fit for purpose.
SVM BSD were novated, by the sub-contractor, to produce the detailed mechanical and electrical design.
Solution
During the detailed design stage of the project we designed a more energy efficient system, incorporating automatic lighting control, low energy light fittings, an efficient ventilation and air conditioning system including associated close control.
The Outcome
A successfully redeveloped and extended leisure centre with a modern and fresh feel. Now offering additional facilities including a new wellbeing centre and separate changing facilities for the local school.
